EPAL accreditation

EPAL has approved Timbermark’s Yeacode inkjet system for printing Europallets.

The approval applies to printing the Oval and ISPM15 logos, and the QR code serialisation project.

As an approved supplier, Timbermark can supply printer systems throughout the UK and EU to EPAL licensees needing to comply with the latest EPALregulations.

The inkjet printer system, developed for the pallet industry in partnership with Chinese supplier, Yeacode, has a few standout features, which make it ideal for printing QR codes on pallet blocks.

• The recirculating ink system means the printheads do not dry out and rarely get clogged or need priming.
• The printer has a throw distance of up to 3cm, meaning the printhead can print through a slotted protection plate, offering protection from protruding nails.
• The UV-curing ink is very dark black, suitable for recycled composite blocks, and tolerant of damp timber surfaces.

In addition to the exceptional print quality, the Timbermark controls system adds value to the overall system. The standard version switches design from block to block, meaning that each pallet block can be printed with a different message, and the positioning is perfect on each block, even if the pallet feed is intermittent. The upgraded version combined with the installation of downstream scanners is approved for EPAL’s data serialisation QR code project. The same control PC acts as the “Master Computer”, with a live connection to the EPAL cloud server for retrieval, handling and submission of validated codes back to EPAL.

With these features and the seal of approval from EPAL, Timbermark is confident they have a product that can add real value to Europallet producers.

Director, Colin Stewart says: “It has taken a couple of years’ focus to develop this system, both for the print technology, and the control software. The new print system solves the problems previously associated with inkjet in the pallet environment, such as printheads clogging or getting bashed by nails or mis-aligned pallets.

The EPAL serialisation module allows licensees to participate in the QR code project, and in turn contribute to improving recycling and reuse rates in wooden packaging.”
