Our high resolution printer systems are suitable for both rough sawn and planed timber. We can mark the timber in the machine direction or transversely, on the surface or the end.

FAST The high resolution HP print heads can run at 10 KHz, producing a decent quality even at high speeds, up to 300m/minute. Logos and text are clearly legible.
Some versions of the equipment can run faster still, and we are looking for customers to work with as development partners in this area.
FLEXIBLE The mounting arrangement includes a lead screw for easy height adjustment, and the cushioning cylinder makes the base plate float accurately over the material, giving a consistent height and print quality. Multi-head options make the systems suited for splits, for applications such as carcasing, tile battens or packing timber. Designs can be repeat-printed with millimetre-precise accuracy, for example printing two grade stamps on long 4.8m pieces, or repeat-printing the ISPM15 mark onto timber for packaging.
ECONOMICAL with a bulk ink system the print heads are fed from a single bulk ink source, resulting in a low cost per print. The piezo print heads are equipped with this feature as standard; for thermal inkjet systems it depends on the applications engineering and system type.
TRANSVERSE PLANER OUTFEED On some lines we can work with a product gap as little as 2mm, and print a bar code onto each piece.
Prints across pieces, with variable data from PLC. We can provide simple logic systems to control the printer according to operators’ joystick or push-button inputs. Thermal systems operate at around 100pieces/minute, piezo systems up to 300 pieces/minute. Cushioned skid and automatic height adjustment. For printing the top surface of transverse carcasing in dog chains, the system is mounted on a moving cross beam, with height adjustment controls according to the thickness. A cushioned skid allows for variations in the presentation due to bent or twisted pieces. Works on separated pieces or complete layer. Where pieces are separated a design can be accurately positioned on the end of each piece. For complete layers, the design can be repeat printed across all pieces, treating the layer as one piece.
SHARP PRINT QUALITY High resolution is ideal for printing across the piece. The information is nicely-presented in a limited printing area.
ROBUST The print head assembly is presented on a ski, which is cushioned to absorb misaligned or bent pieces.
The printer and height adjust motor can respond to external data from your line control system.
For slower speeds, and within a certain height range, the ski can float over pieces of variable thickness without the height adjustment or motor screw.
Intelligent controls The printer responds to a text input from the line control PC or PLC. The text input can populate a variable field in the message to produce C16/C24 classification, for example.
To accommodate variable thicknesses of material, a height adjust motor can respond to external data from your line control system.
For some layering or splits applications we can detect a product gap as little as 1mm, using a laser sensor. This allows us to use external data, printed from a queue that is buffered in the printer controller.
The features of end stamping are very similar to transverse grading applications, just with the print head positioned to print on the end not the top or bottom surface. The print action is still across pieces, and can be used with variable data. The main challenge is to achieve a consistent fair end position, and for splits to be consistently together, or separated. With fixed not variable data, the printer can treat a complete layer as one piece, and repeat-print the design on the same pitch as the piece width.
SHARP PRINT QUALITY The end grain gives an excellent high-resolution result and enables the printing of machine-readable codes such as EAN bar codes, QR or data matrix formats.
AUTOMATIC possibilities include automatic selection of the design, sending variable data, or printing bar codes. The bar code can be fixed, or constructed from a variable data source, (for example, a length measurement system) onto each piece.
FLEXIBLE The installation is suitable for separated pieces or complete layers. Using a laser sensor, the gap between the pieces can be as small as 1mm.
INTELLIGENT The systems are integrated with customers own line control or length measurement systems. A bar code validation unit is available to check the legibility of machine-readable codes, or to ensure the correct code is being printed. Even for codes with variable content, the BCV system can accommodate this using “wild card” elements in its programming.
